It's My Very Own!

“IT’S MY VERY OWN”: bags of love - program champions the immediate needs of children of all ages when they become victims of circumstance.   When their parents or guardian are taken into custody by authorities as results of drug busts or child abuse charges, the children are suddenly removed from the home with little or no personal effects. These children are provided a “love bag” containing a homemade quilt or blanket, stuffed animals, toy, pillow and personal hygiene items in an attractive drawstring bag that can immediately become “their very own” at no cost to the child or DCFS.  It has been estimated that each bag costs roughly $35 each to create--of course it is only through donations that this ministry is possible.
Funds or contribution of items for the bags are needed to support this program, volunteers are needed to sew and make the blankets and love bags.  If you would like to participate in this program: contact Kristine Schauff at 815-625-1135 or email her at: rf.sda777@gmail.org with IMVO in the subject line.
In January of 2009 we delivered our first bags to DCFS.  They were happy to have received them!
the bags ready to deliver to DCFS!

the bags are stacked 2 deep on the counter!

Whiteside County 4H Federation and numerous other individuals helped make these bags possible.  Newman Central Catholic High School Student Council with Mrs. Beth Verdick, teacher/advisor, has taken the program on as their fund raiser for the month of April.  Charlie H., of Polo, and Dr. James O. Hey, D.D.S., of Dixon have donated toothbrushes, floss and toothpaste for the bags.  Don, Lorain, Edith, Dana and the Madison TN chapter of IMVO have helped with all the sewing and gathering of material so far!  WOW!! We now have a cupboard full of quilts ready to give to displaced children.  THANKS to all of you who care and take the time to help others!  You all demonstrate in words and deeds how deeply the Sauk Valley cares for its children!  They are our future!

We need some little toys/games/card games that can be played by a single child or a small group.  Little journals for older kids to write their feelings out, disposable cameras, $5 phone card, gently used books for all ages, anything to provide some activity for children to do regardless of where they may be staying during their time of need.   Contact Kristine if you'd like to help!
